It was his God fearing grandmother who first acknowledged that Lester Barrie would one day be called to ministry. Though he often attended church with his loving grandmother, his calling to discipleship began when he was 16, at The Friendship Baptist Church of Fullerton CA
Lester would go on to attend The University of Southern California where he traveled the country on a Trojan Debate team scholarship. Lester would win many awards and accolades for how he so effectively communicated his points of view with passion and yes humor!
On a Wednesday evening in October of 1987 Lester would preach his trial sermon at The Friendship Baptist Church, then having moved to Yorba Linda CA. Under the leadership of Pastor James Carrington, Lester would serve for five years as an associate minister in the areas of youth and singles ministry before putting ministry on hold to pursue ambitions of being a stand-up comedian.
With his unique style of “Comedy without profanity” Lester Barrie would go on to a 25 year career that would include honors as a Def Comedy Jam All Star, an Apollo Legend, and a host of a full season of Comic View in a Season in which the B.E.T. network boasted of 71 million households.
As an early “Surprise for 2005” Lester rededicated his life and talents to ministry in late 2004. And in 2006 he would launch The Perfecting Christian Fellowship church in Carson California. The ministry was lively, youthful, energetic with an emphasis on youth, singles, and women's ministries as these are Lester Barrie’s areas of passion
In 2011 following an introduction to The Bible Believers Baptist Church of Cerritos, Lester Barrie began being considered for the office and position of Senior Pastor. In July, the Bible Believers Pastor Search Committee submitted the name Lester Barrie to it’s membership and it was voted that Lester Barrie should be accepted as the new Pastor.
Under the leadership of Lester Barrie, the Bible Believers Baptist Church now holds service in Lakewood CA at The Way Christian Fellowship, and is a ministry now looking to shake things up, not only in the Lakewood community, but in the Kingdom Building effort world wide.
On any given Friday or Sat night, Lester Barrie may appear at any given church with a few of his Comic Friends to hold a night of Gospel Comedy for the Church!! Lester Barrie answers his critics by quoting Ecclesiastes 3. “The Bible Says; ‘…there is a time to laugh!”
